Reactor Vessels

Reactor vessels are designed to hold substances that undergo a chemical reaction. They are fabricated in carbon steel, stainless steel, glass lined and hastelloy materials and come with a wide range of pressure levels, temperature ratings and reactor types including slurry, oscillatory baffled, laboratory and Buss loop designs. Reactors can also be fitted with a wide variety of agitator technology and control systems.

High Pressure Reactors

High-pressure reactors are designed specifically to withstand the powerful forces generated by elevated pressure, and feature safety features that ensure an accurate release of pressure. The vessels are constructed from sturdy materials such as stainless steel, which offers corrosion resistance and durability to withstand the harsh conditions inside the used reactors.

Lab-scale high pressure reactors are available in several sizes ranging from 50 ml to 8 liters. They are primarily constructed from stainless steel, but alternative alloys like Hastelloy and Inconnel can also be used. They are usually equipped with a stirrer drive and heater to provide mixing for reactions at different temperatures and pressures. They can be paired with a variety of secondary reaction vessels including test tubes, Erlenmeyer flasks and round-bottom flasks.

In petrochemical processes, hydrogenation is used to convert alkenes and aromatics into saturated hydrocarbons (paraffins) and cycloalkanes. This conversion is important for liquid fuels, as saturated hydrocarbons have much superior storage properties than alkenes and aromatics. Hydrogenation reactors are used in the synthesis of many organic chemicals and pharmaceuticals. They typically contain a catalyst such as palladium on carbon, which is suspended in a solution of the substrate being hydrogenated. The reactors are designed to allow for large gas-liquid mass transfer, which is a necessary requirement in this type of reaction. A hydrogenation reactor comprises a reaction product inlet. The hydrogenation reactor further includes a second hydrogen circulating pipe 90 which recirculates the hydrogen gas flowing in the upper region of the reaction chamber to the reaction system, thereby improving the stability and reaction efficiency of the hydrogenation.
