What is an adjustable-rate mortgage (ARM)?

An ARM is a mortgage loan that has a rates of interest that can change regularly throughout the life of the loan. Most ARMs undergo alter just when annually. Some can have a fixed rate of interest for a specified variety of years at the beginning of the loan and after that change each year after that. For example a 3/1 ARM has a set rate for the very first three years of the loan and then can change once a year after that.

Your loan documents will define how typically your rate can alter in addition to the minimum and optimum quantity it can change each duration and how much it can change over the life of the loan.

When the rate on an ARM modifications, the payment will change.
