Europe Edge Computing Market Forecast by 2033
Market Size in 2024: USD 5.5 Billion
Market Forecast in 2033: USD 46.5 Billion
Market Growth Rate 2025-2033: 25.7%
The Europe edge computing market was valued at USD 5.5 Billion in 2024 and is projected to reach USD 46.5 Billion by 2033, growing at a CAGR of 25.7% during 2025-2033. This growth is being driven by the rising demand for real-time data processing, the expansion of IoT and smart devices, and the increasing focus on data sovereignty and privacy regulations across the region.
Growth Drivers of the European Edge Computing Market
Rising Demand for Real-Time Data Processing
The data that businesses process in real time in Europe is used to optimize their operations and decision-making in manufacturing, healthcare, telecommunications, and other industries. Edge computing is used for reduction of latency and to enable predictive analytics. For instance, in July 2024, Microsoft made an investment of USD 40 million into European edge startup Armada to accelerate the adoption of edge infrastructure for AI. Edge-based solutions seem a vital investment for industrial automation, remote healthcare services, and next-generation telecom applications. These applications rely on real-time data processing at the edge.
Data Sovereignty and Privacy Regulations
The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and other strict data protection laws in Europe are major drivers behind edge computing because they reduce the need for public cloud and reduce the need for transferring personal data across national borders. Bosch Research undertook the CUBE-C project in March 2024. This was part of the IPCEI-CIS initiative. The project involved more than 100 entities from the EU. They focused on decentralized energy-efficient edge infrastructures. Edge computing adoption increases because of compliance challenges and privacy challenges, most notably in finance, government, and healthcare.
Expansion of IoT and 5G-Enabled Applications
The rapid rollout of 5G telecommunications networks and the increase of internet of things (IoT) devices in Europe have been two major factors behind the growth of edge computing in the region to support autonomous transport, AR/VR, and smart city infrastructure. In February 2024, NTT DATA and Schneider Electric announced the establishment of their private 5G-based data center EcoStruxure in Berlin's Marienpark. Private 5G and Edge computing technologies create new opportunities for digital services, logistics, and engaging technologies, where reliable and high-speed connectivity is important.
