Finally, it must be acknowledged that the study concentrated largely on the potential reputational building features RG has and not on whether that potential has been utilized, although where such data are already obtainable and reliable – and it is patchy - we have noted it. We do know though from our own studies that the potential has not been fully realized (Nicholas et al., 2015; Jamali, Nicholas, & Herman, 2016). Many members do not fully engage with the social/community side of the platform and tend to use it just as a resource discovery or a publications showcase.
