Llyn Padarn: A Place for Novice to Extreme Adventurers
Llyn Padarn is the main area where you will find both kayaking and canoeing, and it is located at The Arete site. This glacial lake is 3 kilometers long, has calm waters, and is packed with plenty of hidden lagoons to explore and play in. Canoes, or "open boats," are great for family or group paddle adventures, while kayaks allow for more agile and responsive movement across the lake.
A Splash of Fun and Games on the Water
At Arete, canoeing goes beyond paddling alone; we also offer sessions where paddlers can compete against each other by running races through water, navigating through challenging courses, and working together as a team to accomplish challenges in fun and recreational ways. In addition, participants will have the opportunity to enjoy swimming at Llyn Padarn during warmer weather as a fun water-related activity — all of these activities collectively make a simple lake visit unique, exciting, and memorable for families, groups and individuals.
Participants develop confidence and teamwork, while learning paddle strokes, boat control, and group coordination. Arete combines adventurous outdoor education — covering weather, risk awareness, and decision-making on the water, making it ideal for schools and youth groups.
